I Have a Dream Today!

I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, I still have a dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

Martin Luther King-John Lautermilch
This famous speech was made by Martin Luther King, who won the Noble peace prize. Martin Luther King made the “I have a dream speech”, hoping that one day the colour of peoples skin would no longer depend on how they were treated, but treated based the persons personality. This taught people that it is not on the outside that counts, but what’s on the inside. In the time Martin Luther King lived African Americans were often not treated fairly, they were often not paid the same as white people, didn’t have the same rights as white people and were often discriminated. This had been ignored until Martin Luther king decided to stand up for his peoples rights. He believed that “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” This means that all men were made equal and should not be judged on the color of their skin. Because of Martin Luther King African Americans are now treated as equal Americans. Because of the risk Martin Luther King made for his people his dream “the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.” Martin Luther king lost his life because he was brave enough to stand up for his people’s rights and will be always remembered for his bravery and determination.
